At OnTheGoSystems, working remotely comes with a multitude of benefits. For our developer Radu Constantin, choosing your workplace represents the biggest perk. Whether sipping coffee in a cozy cafe in Romania or coding away in a bustling coworking space in a different country, Radu’s remote work journey tells a story of flexibility.
The beauty of remote work lies in the boundless benefits it offers. It is a gateway to work-life balance, allowing you to tailor your work environment to your personal preferences and lifestyle.
For Radu Constantin, it is an open door to see the world. Working remotely allows Radu to step outside, travel to new places, catch up with old friends, and make new ones along the way – all while keeping up with his professional responsibilities at OnTheGoSystems.
We caught up with Radu and asked him to tell us more about his remote work experience at OTGS and how he combines traveling with working.
Radu, can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
I’m currently part of the WPML (WordPress Multilingual) core team, where I work as a developer. When I first joined the company, I was part of the WPML support team, where I assisted clients.
Having worked with WordPress for about 9-10 years now, I’ve offered support for themes and plugins, contributed to different WordPress products, and occasionally helped organize WordCamps.
How do you benefit from working at OTGS? What do you like the most about working remotely?
Working at OTGS helps me in different ways. For one, I have the luxury of choosing the location I’m working from: home, a coffee shop, co-working space, and sometimes, a different country.
Also, the opportunity to work with and learn from amazing colleagues, always ready to assist and answer any question I may, enhances my work experience greatly.
Could you share some places you’ve worked from before?
Over the past 6 years, I’ve enjoyed working from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a couple of months each year. I also explored and worked from various European countries, and hopped across different cities in Romania.
How do you go about selecting your remote work locations?
I usually choose to work from a place where I have acquaintances or friends. It allows me to blend work with the experience of discovering how locals live their day-to-day lives. This creates what I call an “authentic experience.”
Any insights into your future remote working plans?
It’s hard to say, because I don’t stick to rigid plans for these adventures! I seize any opportunity that arises to step out and work from new places.
How do you stay motivated and productive while working remotely?
Stepping out of the house cuts down distractions and lets me ease into work mode.
When at home, my dedicated work desk is my productivity hub. The moment I sit down, there’s nothing much for me to get distracted by – it becomes all about diving into PhpStorm and coding away.
