New Career Opportunities: Supporting Growth Across Teams

We’re excited to announce some fantastic career development opportunities for our Support team members.

How Our Team is Growing Together

As OTGS evolves and we implement new tools like the Self-Support Wizard, we’re able to create new paths for growth and development—especially for our Support team.

Many of our talented team members, who have been providing technical support to WPML users, now have opportunities to develop their skills and explore roles in other departments across the company.

Here’s a look at three key areas where our team is stepping up:

1. From Support to Development

Thanks to the extra capacity created by the Self-Support Wizard and some other initiatives, we’re now able to shift some WPML Support team members into development tasks. This not only helps streamline processes but also allows our talented team members to grow and bring their expertise into different areas of the company.

Some Supporters are transitioning into full-time development roles, while others will work part-time in both support and development for now. We’re proud of Prosenjit Barman, Long Nguyen, Osama Mersal, Bigul Malayi, and Paola Mendiburu for embracing this exciting new journey. 

Prosenjit, Long, and Osama began this transition a few weeks ago, so they’re already able to share some thoughts on the experience:

Prosenjit Barman

The best thing about this transition has been the opportunity to learn and grow in unexpected ways. WPML is quite complex internally, but I was positively surprised by the support and flexibility of my team to fix the internal issues. This experience has surely broadened my skills.

Initially, balancing time between Support and development was a challenge, but I successfully overcame it. Now, the primary challenge is to resolve issues as quickly as possible.❞

If you are a curious Supporter, this development role can help you understand more about how WPML works in the background.

The big challenge is not just fixing the issue directly. It is making sure your code doesn’t affect other features, plugins and themes, and other elements that are still running well.

The best part is that this is an opportunity to grow inside the company and to gain new skills and experience in different ways. The biggest challenge is to learn new things quickly to handle the assigned tasks.

Also, testing new waters is always challenging, especially in the Development team for a huge plugin like WPML.

2. Enhancing Efficiency Through Bug Testing

Another great way for Supporters to contribute is by participating in bug testing during each development cycle.

Supporters help by identifying bugs, carefully documenting the steps, and preparing everything for developers to address quickly. This makes the developers’ work easier and ensures issues are fixed more efficiently.

This collaboration between teams highlights how Supporters play a critical role in keeping everything running smoothly. And, there’s potential for growing into a development role in the future for those who are interested in following this path. 

3. Growth in Support: New 2nd Tier Opportunities

We’ve opened up new roles in 2nd Tier Support, giving team members a chance to dive into more complex issues. This role also provides opportunities to work with other departments, expanding their expertise and impact even further.
