Senior PHP / AWS Developer for System Optimization

OntheGoSystems is hiring a senior developer to optimize our WordPress sites for availability and cost on Amazon ECS. Our sites serve 250,000+ clients who expect 24/7 availability. Downtime or slow performance affects our revenue, reputation, and hosting costs.

Your Mission

Migrate our WordPress sites to AWS ECS and continuously optimize performance and costs. You’ll handle issues, investigate root causes, and implement solutions to prevent recurrence.

Most of your time will focus on improving system efficiency, enhancing client experience, and reducing expenses. You’ll collaborate with our IT and code teams, combining DevOps and development work to resolve bottlenecks and ensure smooth operations.

Must-Have Skills

  • Strong PHP expertise
  • MySQL query optimization
  • WordPress experience
  • Proven AWS experience, including ECS
  • Performance profiling and debugging skills
  • Uptime monitoring and alert setup
  • Git proficiency

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Configuring high-performance web servers (NGINX)
  • Load and stress testing (e.g., k6)
  • Writing End-to-End tests
  • CI configuration and management

Our Hiring Process

You’ll have 3-4 interviews that take between 30 to 90 minutes each. You’ll be talking with our HR, the team leader and members of the team you’re interviewing for.

For some roles, we’ll also ask for an assignment. If this assignment requires significant time, we’ll pay for your time doing it.

In these interviews, we know that you’re interviewing us, like we’re interviewing you. We welcome your questions and will answer them gladly.

At OnTheGoSystems, we keep things simple and straightforward. In most cases, our interview process is made up of three parts:

1. The Chat with the Recruiter

60 mins

During this informal video call, we’ll tell you more about the job and OnTheGoSystems (OTGS), and you can ask us anything you want.

2. The Technical Deep Dive

60-90 mins

This video call has a technical focus and gives you the opportunity to speak to potential teammates and see how you can contribute to the team. You can expect detailed questions about your experience and qualifications, and you may be asked to do a live assignment, depending on the position.

3. The Check-In with the HR Manager

30 mins

During the quick video call with our HR Manager, we’ll ensure that everyone is on the same page regarding the position you’re applying for. You can ask questions and clarify any doubts you may have. We’ll also cover any administrative details necessary to extend a final offer that meets your needs and expectations.
