What all WordPress geeks and fans are excited about around this time every year, is to visit the fantastic WordCamp Europe held somewhere on the old continent. This year was no the exception and we followed the signs to the beautiful city of Paris, France. Did we enjoy it? Well, for some of us our brains think we are still there. :)

This year’s event brought in 1900 visitors from 79 countries around the globe. The event was also streamed live to 1000 viewers across the web. I mean, where else could you have the opportunity to see and meet such cultural diversity?

About the city I won’t say much, but I’ll share some data: we averaged 18km walking per day, and yet we did not even see 30% of Paris!

An important percentage of OTGSians live in Europe, so WordCamp Europe is always special for us because it’s an event that brings us together.  This year we enjoyed an unforgettable picnic à la française in front of the Eiffel tower and it was a blast.

WordCamp Europe: Main venue

The WordCamp venue was located at Les Docks de Paris, situated in the north of the city. The venue was part of a three building complex.  We, along with all the other sponsors, were located in the main area,  which was great because many attendees were passing by and we were able to meet and speak to numerous WordPress enthusiasts.

Here we want to highlight you, our faithful users, who were approaching us from time to time sharing your experiences, suggestions and general thoughts. One thing we can say for sure from your feedback is that our products are going in the right direction and that we will push even harder in the future. Thank you for your trust.

It was fun spending a lot of time with with our friend Anastasios Manoloudis at multilingual tribe meetings and with other great colleagues from Elementor, WP Rocket, GoDaddy and so many other WordPress companies.

Attending the talks and making community is part of the fun and our OTGS colleague Dario Jazbec Hrvatin gave a riveting talk sharing writing tips and techniques so as to achieve better goals. Since he is one of the regular WordCamp speakers now, I highly suggest catching his presentation at WordPress TV.

Oh yes, we had really nice swag this year too. Our swag stashes were completely depleted!. However, it seems all companies are really focusing on promo materials more and more each year. We saw a lot of spinners, powerbanks, fancy bags and free domain subscriptions.

Some companies decided to create contests to attract WordCamp attendees. For example, we participated in a ROBOT Ninja dance contest which was video recorded.

We would love to see that mess! :D

Each year it seems that the party is getting louder and louder.

This is meant in a positive context, of course. The Speakers and Sponsors dinner was held on a boat, out on the beautiful Seine river. A great opportunity for informal talks with our fellow colleagues.

For the WCEU closing party we stayed looong past midnight and this photo will probably conjure up the revolving energy enveloping us that night.

Get prepared

Well…let’s sum up to conclude this short recap. Whether you use WordPress for making a living or you are an everyday user, WordCamp Europe should be your next stop. It will help you understand and make you a part of this astonishing community.
