At OTGS, career growth takes many paths. For Mateus Getulio Vieira, that meant moving from WPML Support to coding full-time with the Systems team.
As a Systems team developer, Mateus is embracing new challenges, learning from experienced teammates, and making an impact. We caught up with him to hear about his journey and what’s next.
How does it feel to officially be part of the Systems team?
Being part of the Systems team feels amazing! Moving into a development position is something I have wanted for quite some time.
The integration with the team has been fantastic—there are so many legends in my team, and the fact that they welcomed me so well and the way everyone in the team is willing to help when you have doubts is something I’ll never forget.
A big part of that support came from my mentor, Ahmed Mohammed. He is very knowledgeable and was always there to help, with a great understanding of the codebase and development best practices in general.
What are your goals or expectations in this new role?
I want to keep learning! I love it when there’s a new technology or framework I haven’t worked with before—it’s fun and a unique chance for me to expand my stack.
I also want to continue being useful to the team. I’ve worked on projects that made a real impact on customers and fixed bugs that had been in our backlog.

Besides development, you also take on other duties. Can you tell us more?
Along with development work, I also take on Systems Support duties, monitoring server logs and tracking site performance. We’re also the go-to team when partners have questions or issues with the systems we maintain.
Each developer takes a one-week shift, and now that I’m part of the rotation, I get to see a different side of our work. It’s been awesome!
