A Smarter WPML and a New Product for Developers – Q1 2025 Highlights

The first quarter of 2025 brought one of WPML’s most important updates in recent years: WPML 4.7. With it came a major step forward in making translation faster, easier, and more accurate.

Improving WPML With Clients in Mind

The WPML 4.7 release is the result of months of research, client interviews, and UX testing. Multilingual WordPress sites have grown more complex over the years. There’s more content, more integrations, and more pressure to translate everything quickly—and well.

We set out with the goal of giving users:

  • Clarity – A single place to manage translations across the entire site
  • Control – Better visibility into what needs translation and how it’s progressing
  • Confidence – Smarter translation workflows that work reliably with different themes and plugins

We put those goals into action by:

  • Completely redesigning the Translation Dashboard to be the only screen users need to translate their site
  • Improving the Advanced Translation Editor with smarter segmentation and grouped content
  • Introducing automatic glossary retranslation, so updated terms apply consistently across the site without manual steps

Community Reactions and Partner Collaboration

WPML 4.7 introduced a lot of changes to the user interface and translation flow. We didn’t want to catch any of our clients off guard.

That’s why we worked with plugin and theme partners to update compatibility documentation and guides ahead of the release. We also followed up with community educators and blogs to help them reflect how WPML works today.

What’s Next – A New Product for Translating Software

While WPML continues to evolve, we’ve also been working on something new: Private Translation Cloud (PTC).

Like WPML, PTC is built to make translation faster and more reliable—this time for software developers. It’s designed to:

  • Translate apps, SaaS platforms, themes, and plugins
  • Support a wide range of file formats
  • Handle continuous localization directly from code repositories
  • Use our own proprietary AI engine to deliver fast, context-aware, high-quality translations

After months of internal testing and pilot programs, PTC is almost ready for public release. We’re excited to share more soon.
