July 11, 2016
What a month! With the number of WordCamps and WordPress meetups increasing all over the world, we barely have time to write about all of them. So, let’s have a review of all events we participated in during this month – besides those where we were WordPress Global Community Sponsors.
Srdjan attended WordCamp Belgrade 2016 on June 4th, and wrote a detailed summary of this WordCamp. If you missed this WordCamp, you can pretend you were in Belgrade through Srdjan’s article.
The same weekend, I (Andrés) went to Antwerp, Belgium, and attended the very first WordCamp held in Belgium as a speaker. If you are thinking about applying for an event, please read the article about my impressions assisting at WordCamp Antwerp 2016.
On June 9th, Itamar and our CEO, Amir, attended WordPress Conference Israel, Press for Word 2016. This is the largest annual professional WordPress conference in Israel. It was a day full of lectures with WordPress experts in Israel. I’m pretty sure they reaped a lot of new ideas to be implemented at OnTheGoSystems !
Just one day later, I traveled to WordCamp Marbella 2016, again as a speaker. This time with steadier confidence and speaking in my native language – Spanish, I spoke about the WordPress Multilingual World.
This was the first time for a lot of people – for me as speaker in Spain, but also for Jacob, Ignacio, Pedro and other organisers. The clock was ticking and there was only one month to prepare for it. It seemed marathonic and almost impossible, but the organizers gambled on it and they won. They delivered an amazing one day WordCamp experience for almost 150 attendees.
And to round off that weekend, on June 11th, Bigul organised a WordPress meetup in Kochi. With 32 attendees, it was a success! They had to battle the rain in order to arrive on time, but the organizers got the job done. They presented an introduction to WordPress and its community. Then, Harishanker from Automattic continued with a session about WordPress for Startups, followed by a Workshop about WordPress possibilities.
At the end of July, they are planning to apply for a session at WordCamp Kochi 2016 in December. They have already shortlisted a few places in Kochi like Aluva & Fort Kochi, so everything seems on the right road for a new WordCamp for the Kochi community.
And the icing on the cake – WordCamp Europe 2016! This year, 25 members of our OTGS team were participants along with more than 1900 attendees who took over the Museumsquartier in Vienna. We had the opportunity to sponsor this great event, and as it is not only about us, we were able to reach out and have more personal contact with our users.
At end the month, Otto gave a talk about “Going Multilingual”! Let’s see Otto thoughts after his first speech at WordPress MeetUp Buenos Aires:
“On Monday, June 27th, I gave a talk about going multilingual at the Buenos Aires WordPress MeetUp.
It was a “thematic” event: I spoke about WPML, there was a talk about Polylang and another one about helping with the translations of WP to es_AR.
The meetup was great, although fewer people than expected showed up due to the weather. I had good feedback about the talk and especially about WPML. So I was really happy about it. Even the guy presenting Polylang recognized that our plugin is a very solid, complete and trustworthy tool for professional projects.
This is the fourth meetup I attended (I have organized one), but this was the first one as a speaker. It was a very satisfying experience, one I will try to repeat :)
I’m beginning to feel closely involved with the local WP community which is quite active and enthusiastic.”
As you can see, there are a lot of events going on all over the world – from Argentina to Spain, Israel and India. We hope next time one will be held close to you!
