WordCamp Europe 2016

July 4, 2016

WordCamp Europe 2016 is over and it is time to write about it. WCEU is special, but it is even more special for OnTheGoSystems. As the remote working company we are, finding time to meet each other is precious. And WCEU provided the perfect space for that.

This year, 25 members of our team were part of the more than 1900 attendees who took over the Museumsquartier in Vienna. We had the opportunity to sponsor this great event, and as it is not only about us, we wanted to have personal contact with our users.

Meeting the attendees

This time we had a great stand prepared by Peter, where we were able to talk with a wide range of people – attendees, speakers, sponsors, users of WPML and Toolset and also newbies interested in our products. We received a lot of good feedback. Speaking personally, I find it really pleasurable talking face to face with people making use of our support, rather than just through the internet.

After two days of hard work, offering Toolset licences and several other prizes and swags, WordCamp Europe 2016 had to arrive to a close. All team work has its rewards and this time wasn’t an exception:

Denise and I (on the left on the picture below) were part of the Volunteers team and, thanks to her hard work, organisational skills and endless energy, WordCamp Vienna invited Denise to be part of the Organiser team for next year. Congratulations!

The Ball

As everything in life is not only about work, we had some fun too. We had a ball ! The venue had an amazing space for dancing, to have some drinks and talk, and well, we just had to take advantage of it – lots of beers coming and going, pictures, selfies, Wapuus and Matt Mullenweg hanging around with all of us………

Giving back

Contributor day came, and no matter how late it was when we went to bed after the Ball, we all dressed in our WordPress t-shirts and were ready to contribute! The day was full – plenty of workshops and contributor teams, and our dynamic members participating in several teams.

Bigul, Denise and I were in the Polyglot team. We also had Vuk and Srdjan in the Plugin Review team. I also took some time to contribute with the Theme Review and Eduard for the Core team. In harmony with one of our goals this year, the Community team was very active with Agnes, Selena and Konstantinos (who, by the way, is one of the organisers of WordCamp Athens 2016).
