OTGS November News

December 1, 2020

Before entering the holiday season, we spent our November diligently working on the next Toolset and WPML releases. At the same time, our support kept ticking like clockwork, and we continued our work with partners.

Toolset News

November has been all about stability and performance for the Toolset team. We just published a joint release of all Toolset plugins. It packs tons of fixes and usability improvements and much better performance. You can find the details in the announcement post.

We are also getting ready for the upcoming WordPress 5.6 release and the new changes in its block editor. This includes working hard to ensure full compatibility with PHP 8.

Our next release is already almost ready and is going to testing in the coming days. It will bring a few incredible features to Toolset plugins. We’ll share all of the details in the next blog post.

Finally, we also plan to complete some major compatibility tasks involving page builders and blocks from third parties, plus some performance improvements related to scripts and styles loaded on the front-end.

WPML News

WPML 4.4.5, 4.4.6, and 4.4.7 beta

We have released three minor fix versions of WPML: 4.4.5, 4.4.6 and the beta for 4.4.7. All of these releases include a round of compatibility issues with WordPress 5.6 and PHP 8.0.

Our experience taught us that until the very last release candidate, WordPress could include breaking changes. Therefore, we will release the official version of WPML 4.4.7 only after the last WordPress 5.6.release candidate. Presumably, this will be between December 1st (date of the second release candidate) and December 8th (WordPress 5.6 target release date).

Advanced Translation Editor

In November, we had a big release for our Advanced Translation Editor (ATE). The biggest new feature is the addition of the DeepL automatic translation service. We also moved our payment system from being based on words to being based on credits.

This release also allows you to map custom languages and view translations from other sources right within ATE.

You can find all the details for this release in its announcement post.

WPML 4.5.0

We continued the work on this big release at a good pace. It will include a lot of new features for translators and changes in the user interface. Both aim to streamline and improve the overall experience.

Compatibility

In early November, we announced the launch of our WPML-recommended plugin directory. With over 60 different plugins listed, ranging from page builders and calendar plugins to SEO and sliders, we now provide our clients with a comprehensive range of WPML-compatible plugins they can depend upon to build a multilingual website.

But the work doesn’t stop there – ongoing WPML-compatibility is a priority for both our partnerships team and the authors behind these fantastic plugins. We’re continually working on ways to keep our plugins compatible and finding ways of sharing this news with our clients – like this glowing mention of WPML in a round-up of the best translation plugins.

Next, we’re doing the same kind of the directory for themes.

Affiliates and Partnerships

At OnTheGoSystems, we love partnerships both old and new.

November saw us launch an important new Toolset partnership with the popular WooCommerce theme, WoodMart. Clients can now use our theme and plugin together to build custom WooCommerce sites without coding, and we’re looking forward to working with more WooCommerce themes in the future.

On the topic of new partnerships, we also welcomed 11 new partners to WPML’s Go Global program this month and reached out to a number of popular plugins and themes to ensure WPML compatibilty for our shared client base.

Translation partners

We started November with a fresh new release – InnovaLang.

With offices in Italy and France, InnovaLang joins WPML to bring its broad experience in patent translation (they have translated over 20,000 since 2003), as well as technical, scientific, legal and logistics (Travel & Tourism Translation) translation.

Looking for an Italian Translation Service? You can learn more about InnovaLang in their integration announcement.

On the other hand, our long-time translation partner BeTranslated published its own page about WordPress translation with WPML. Check it out to learn how BeTranslated can help you turn your site multilingual.

There are many new integrations on the way, so just wait for next month’s news and stay tuned.

Support

We had a very busy November both in WPML and Toolset support, onboarding new clients and embracing new challenges that this brings. We still managed to add and conclude a few new workflows and tools. This includes better tracking of issues our clients most need help with. In turn, this will help us implement a new round of improvements in the way we provide support.

We were also interviewing and hiring new candidates for our talented team. We are happy to have found some very strong and promising candidates that will help us strengthen some of our non-English support forums and chats.

Thanks for reading…

And stay tuned for next month’s updates!
