From Support to Systems: Ahmed’s Goal-Scoring Journey at OTGS

October 30, 2023

Ahmed Mohammed first became an OTGSian in 2014, but a lot has changed since then. Transitioning from the early days of assisting clients to now crafting code for system enhancements, Ahmed’s journey of growth is dotted with learning curves, motivation, and a team that cheers for every win.

Ahmed, tell us about yourself.

My name is Ahmed Mohammed, though people often call me Nagdy due to the abundance of people named Ahmed in Egypt! I live in October City, just a 30-minute drive from the iconic pyramids of Giza, with my wife and two kids.

I graduated from the Faculty of Computers and Information at Cairo University. Tech is my jam – I’m particularly keen on WordPress, software development, and AI.

When I’m not not immersed in WordPress related activities, you’ll find me passionately following football across the Egyptian, English, and Spanish leagues. Real Madrid holds a special place in my heart.

When did you start working at OTGS and what was your exact position?

I joined OnTheGoSystems in 2014, initially working as a first-tier supporter. My primary role was to assist clients in building their multilingual websites.

What do you do now?

Currently, I work as a Systems Developer in the Systems Code Team. My responsibilities include maintaining and enhancing our key products—WPML, Toolset, OnTheGoSystems, and PTC (Private Translation Cloud)—by developing new features and ensuring stability.

How did you grow into this role? What led up to it?

My growth into this role has been fueled by continuous learning. I read books, watch videos, and any resources I could find about WordPress and development.

But I didn’t do it alone. The support and mentorship from everyone in the company have been invaluable in getting me where I am today.

Are you content in your role now?

I’m extremely content in my role as a Systems Developer. As I recently mentioned to my team leader, Ivan Maričić, I genuinely love the work I do and look forward to starting each new day.

In short, what advice would you give someone who wants to grow within the company?

My advice for anyone aiming to grow within the company is straightforward: never stop learning and don’t hesitate to ask for help. You’ll find that everyone here is more than willing to lend a hand.
