From Community to Cultural Discoveries: Our Experience at WordCamp Asia 2024

March 27, 2024

Bags packed, laptops charged, and spirits high, the OnTheGoSystems team took off to Taipei for an experience to remember at WordCamp Asia 2024. Our agenda was filled with informative sessions, chances to engage with fellow WordPress enthusiasts, and a dash of adventure.

Engaging Conversations and New Opportunities

With around 2000 attendees from every corner of the globe, the event had a nicely casual atmosphere that WordCamps are known for.

This time, we decided to focus our conversation on only two topics – our major upcoming features:

  • AI-powered translations that surpass human accuracy
  • Our new project, Private Translation Cloud (PTC) for fully automated software translation

AI-related topics are all the rage today, so our upcoming offerings were met with a lot of enthusiasm from everyone we talked to.

Of course, beyond interactions with the attendees, WordCamp Asia 2024 gave us a great opportunity to work with the community of WordPress enthusiasts. Participating in Contributor Day and attending insightful talks were both amazing experiences.

Last but not least, the event provided a rare chance for in-person interactions with many individuals and partners we usually only connect with online.

Beyond the Conference: Exploring Taipei and Hualien

Stepping away from the hustle and bustle of the conference, we embraced the opportunity to explore Taipei, a city where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously. Our exploration led us through a rich cultural landscape and introduced us to the diverse flavors of Taiwanese cuisine.

A great thing about working remotely is that you can take the work with you wherever you go. So, when you travel thousands of miles to a country as beautiful as Taiwan, it makes sense to stay a bit longer to explore it.

We all jumped at the opportunity and stayed in Taiwan for another whole week.

Our adventure extended to Hualien, where the breathtaking landscapes of Taroko National Park, the vibrancy of the local night market, and the unique flavors of Taiwanese cuisine provided a refreshing counterbalance to the intensity of the conference.

Reflections on a Memorable Journey

WordCamp Asia 2024 was more than just a conference; it was a celebration of a huge community and an opportunity to meet wonderful people from different cultures and backgrounds.

The trip to Taiwan was a spectacular exploration in the heart of Asia, and we’re excited to see where our future adventures will take us.
