Yvette Oliveau’s Recipe for Success: Balancing Passion, Tech, and Learning at OTGS

October 9, 2023

At OTGS, every team member has a unique story that contributes to our collective success. Today, we delve into the journey of Yvette Oliveau, who’s been with us since 2014. Exploring avenues from Support to Custom Retention, Yvette shares her journey, insights, and the key to succeeding in various roles.

Yvette, you have quite an international background! Can you tell us about your journey?

I’m originally from Southern California and have been living in Europe since 1993. After living in France and Switzerland, I’ve settled in a small gastronomic village in Catalunya, Spain and have called it home since 1998.

I have a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from UCLA, a M.S. in Instructional Design and Technology from Purdue, and a M.S. in Cyber Security Management from UPC in Barcelona.

Professionally, I’ve always worked in the international tech sector. My career has taken me through several consulting positions in large corporations including IBM, Nestle, and Sony.

Both my adult sons have followed in my tech footsteps, with one being an Ethical Hacker in the USA, and the other a Data Engineer in Amsterdam. I guess the apples didn’t fall too far from the tree! We’re a close knit family who enjoy the benefits of remote work whenever we can.

Beyond the tech world, what are your personal passions and interests?

While tech has kept me employed and allowed me to move around the world, it’s not my primary passion. My first love has always been music, writing, and art. When I can, I enjoy listening to live gigs, dancing, reading books, and painting.

Nature is another love of mine, and you will often find me hiking in the hills with my dog. I’m always enthusiastic about problem solving and continuous learning.

And just a fun note – even after raising two athletes, I haven’t developed a knack for cooking. However, I genuinely appreciate gastronomy and always welcome culinary experiences crafted by those who are passionate about it.

Let’s go back in time. When did you first join OTGS and what was your role?

I joined OTGS in 2014 as a member of the Support team. It was a smaller team then, and I remember a time when I was handling English, Spanish, and French tickets all by myself. We quickly grew and handling support in 3 languages didn’t last long, thank goodness!

How has your role at OTGS evolved since then?

After eight years and working under the guidance of four managers, I was given the opportunity to join to the Custom Retention team.

Together with Agnes Bury, we actively work to improve the experience of clients using our product. We’re aiming to make enhancements that increase renewal licenses and reduce returns and support tickets. Our tasks complement the efforts of the development, documentation, and compatibility teams.

How did your prior experience prepare you for your current role in the Custom Retention team?

My background as a Supporter, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of our company structure, prepared me for this new challenge. Working with Agnes in 2021 on the QA (Quality Assurance) team further positioned me well for this role.

Can you highlight pivotal moments or people that influenced your growth within OTGS?

I’m grateful to Amit Kvint, our Chief Customer Officer who leads the support teams, for recognizing my potential and skills and pairing them with Agnes’ business expertise.

This attention to detail and individual-focused approach is something that I’ve always appreciated about OTGS.

How do you feel about your current role, and what keeps you motivated?

I’m very happy with my current role. It involves a variety of tasks like testing new product features, setting up testing environments for documentation efforts, analyzing sales data to discern trends, and exploring the incorporation of AI into understanding customer feedback, among other things.

The intensity and diversity of these new challenges, alongside the opportunity to keep developing my skills, keep me enormously motivated.

Lastly, any pearls of wisdom for those aiming to grow within OTGS?

Our company is made up of wonderfully open and smart people.  Even though we work remotely, I’ve always felt seen and heard… sometimes even more than when working onsite at an office.

So be bold in trying out new things, trust your colleagues, and don’t hesitate to ask questions. Seek what new skills you can learn from anything you do. And always put the client first. We make a good product, but without a client, a product has no purpose.
