WordCamp Madrid 2023: Meeting the Community and Each Other

November 10, 2023

This year, our team had the pleasure of attending WordCamp Madrid, one of the largest WordCamps in Europe with over 600 attendees. It was an excellent opportunity to connect with our Spanish clients and have some fun together.

Meeting People is Easy – and Fun!

With a large WPML community in Spain, we decided to host a booth at WordCamp Madrid. This gave us the chance to talk to them and, of course, meet others from the Spanish WordPress community.

Our official booth team included Agnes Bury (Client Advocate), Alejandro Sanchez (Support Deputy Leader), and Dario Jazbec Hrvatin (Content Manager).

However, many other team members were also present, including our CEO Amir Helzer and colleagues Marcel Tanich, Luis Sacristán, Carlos Rojas, and Tomer Helzer, all actively engaging with conference attendees.

During the event, we talked to a lot of people and gathered a lot of useful insights. As Agnes Bury put it:

I’m really impressed with the WordPress Spanish community. Spanish people laugh a lot and come up to you saying “Hola!”. I wish I could speak Spanish. I was so eager to chat with people more, and unfortunately, not everyone speaks fluent English. Those with whom I managed to strike up a conversation were very sincere and said what they thought, which of course I appreciate. This lets us gather valuable feedback about our products.

Alejandro Sanchez agreed and added:

I really loved talking to people and hearing their thoughts, they were SUPER friendly and easy to talk to. I was fully booked throughout the entire WordCamp and got really nice feedback from clients, who weren’t shy to say what they didn’t like. But, I spotted a trend: some people actually returned to WPML (because they inherited sites with it or because they wanted to get updated on what the plugin now offers) and found it even better than before, which was a nice thing to hear!

One Team, One Goal – Get Together and Have Fun!

As a fully remote team, we seize every chance to meet in person, and WordCamp Madrid 2023 was an ideal occasion.

Our team enjoying a nice dinner together in Madrid

As Dario Jazbec Hrvatin put it:

To me, a WordCamp wouldn’t feel “complete” if I didn’t go out for a nice dinner with my colleagues. Some of them I have known for many years and others for less, but there’s always this special connection we share. I think getting together is something incredibly valuable to us as a team. It always feels like there’s so much we want to talk about and so little time. Which means we’re having fun, right?

Until the Next One…

WordCamp Madrid 2023 was not just a testament to the growing WordPress community in Spain, but also a vivid reminder of how important in-person connections are in our digital world.

For WPML, it marked another milestone in learning, sharing, and growing – as a team and as a renowned product in the WordPress community.
